Jumbo
is the appropriate name for a 55,000 square metre shopping
centre located in the city of Vantaa, near Helsinki, Finland.
Jumbo is home to sixty stores, restaurants, and services.
According to Joel Kejo, a manager at the Vantaa Energy Company,
the annual energy consumption of the shopping centre is
close to 20 GWh. Since each unit consumes energy at different
rates, Jumbo’s management required a solution to bill
each occupant fairly.
AM Engineering was hired to design a system for individual
energy metering and automatic billing for each tenant in
the centre. They chose to use the Carlo Gavazzi EM2-DIN
energy meters with RS485 communication. 170 EM2’s
and a number of WM3-96 power quality analyzers were installed
throughout the shopping centre – all connected back
to a PC running FIX software. The FIX software gathers all
the energy information as well as power quality data as
well. An invoicing software takes the energy information
from the FIX software and generates monthly invoices to
all tenants.
