What is the difference between a contactor and a relay?

Contactors are designed for switching higher power loads (motors, heaters) with current ratings from several amps to hundreds of amps. Relays typically handle lower currents for control circuits. Carlo Gavazzi mini-contactors bridge this gap, offering compact size with ratings suitable for small motors and resistive loads.

What are thermal overload relays used for?

Thermal overload relays protect motors from damage due to overload conditions, phase loss, or locked rotor. They monitor motor current and trip when it exceeds the setpoint for a specified time. Carlo Gavazzi offers adjustable overloads that mount directly to their mini-contactors.

What coil voltages are available for Carlo Gavazzi contactors?

Carlo Gavazzi mini-contactors are available with AC coil voltages (24V, 110V, 230V, 400V) and DC coil voltages (12V, 24V, 48V). DC coil versions offer lower power consumption and can be controlled directly by PLC outputs.
